The history of this market has been 50 years. For the first time, this place was not the market. Before and after liberation, this market has spontaneously formed along Bokgae roadside with shops and stalls. In 2011, the market formally registered as Korean Traditional Market that targets the typical apartment residents and local people. Korean Traditional Market is losing competitiveness so that the city of Seoul pays attention to give the specific competitive for five traditional markets in Seoul by 2016. Five traditional markets include Jungneung Market in Sungbookgu, Shinchang Market in Dobonggu, Shinwon Market in Gwanakgu, Gildong Market in Gangdonggu and Youngcheon Market in Seodaemungu.

Things to Eat & Do

 

 

In the market, you can try a variety of foods and drinks and the market is very active itself. Transportation around this area is convenient too! You must try popular food, a twisted bread stick, and the market is very proud of their food so it will continue to grow. 

 

 In addition, you can try pork hocks, rice cakes and a seaweed rice-cake much more. In particular, many tourists from the United States, Japan and Canada bring a packed pork hocks to their home country. You will taste the traditional style of Korean food. 


Furthermore, another attraction of Yeoungcheon market is that a second-hand book shop in this market. The book shop has been 45 years since it opened. You will find the hidden Korean books back in old times.
